Texas to Canada: Harper's Crime Bill a huge mistake

Our Conservative government's Crime Bill is about the worst possible approach to justice imaginable. It copies the utterly failed war on crime that cost the USA billions and has only made things far worse. Mega prisons, massive criminalization of the poor, youth, and those who we should be helping not jailing. It will seriously hurt society, and is a completely un-Canadian approach.

Most Canadians are ignorant of the ins and outs of corrections and "Justice" in Canada.

In Japan we have the death penalty but for others we have a strict prison regime with short sentences: emphasis on rehabilitation. It works.

The only real problem with Canadas justice system are the sentancing irregularities. (which piss me off) A murderer gets 5 years while pot possesion gets 10, rapist's get a couple years animal abuse gets 15. And any tax related offence gets the most time of all. Poaching wild life is a s bad as genocide,industrial polluters get,,,well nothing.But Harper wants non violent offenders to do more time.But I think the goal is ultamatly private for profit prisons.
