After lifting 100 and 120 lb kegs, here I go for the 140lb attempt...almost! First time strongman contest. First time keg lift. Not bad for a start. See http://deafstrongman.blogspot.com

  • It is definitely much harder to do because either you have sand or, worse, water inside the keg that shifts. Now, I can press 225 for overhead press (no push press) and I had difficulty doing the 140lb keg and barely could do 160lb keg. Control is much harder to do when something is that bulky and whose center weight of a keg shifts.

  • Thanks, HHH. Kegs filled with water is even harder to lift.

  • yeah it's a lot harder to press any awkward objects like rocks or kegs, logs and so on.I 've been wanting a keg myself what was the keg filled with?Checkout my rock lift with 140 lbs i think you'll appriciate it.

    Also nice set of vids.

  • Yeah, the keg is harder to press than a barbell. After all, barbells are designed for lifting and pressing. But if you can press a certain weight on a barbell you should certainly be AIMING to press a keg of similar weight. It comes down to practice.

Strongman events require not just absolute strength that barbell presses require but all types of strength (esp. in the grip) - the events are just damn awkward.

  • Not bad at all. Now here's a question. I can press 140-145 barbells pretty easy for singles. I used to be a bodybuilder and I'm getting back in as a strongman after a LONG lay off. Is the keg harder to press than a barbell, if so, how much harder?
