A video passed to me showing five hostels under the same roof in Tsim Sha Tsui (a district of Hong Kong)

The reason they have so many names for just one hostel is so that they get more listings on hostel booking sites, so when you do a search for a hostel in Hong Kong you get, say, ten listings and five are for the same place. Make sure to check the address when you search for hostels in Hong Kong!

The same technique is used for hostels in Chungking Mansions, which is two doors down from Mirador Mansions.

The video clearly shows one check-in counter for five hostels these include the:

USA Hotel
New Garden Hostel
Travellers Friendship House
Kowloon New Hostel
Mirador Hostel

I also counted six (possible seven) separate violations of the fire safety code. See if you can find them. :)

Below is a link to an article by The Standard, one of two English language newspapers in Hong Kong, discussion Mirador Mansions:

  • I've been asked to remind everyone that this hostel operates under the following names:

    USA Hotel

    New Garden Hostel

    Travellers Friendship House

    Kowloon New Hostel

    Mirador Hostel

    THEY'RE ALL THE SAME PLACE

  • @primummovens OMG, i have stayed at this place!!! It is really not that bad. You get what you pay for people !

  • I think HK government should start new compulsory plans to reeducate all owners/sellers in HK how to treat customers nicely!

  • omg it look so strange

  • seems ok to me. pretty nice actually...depending on the price.

  • i went here in 08'.

First night I stayed in a room with a bunch of illegals from the mainland I think

  • I booked online for here on hostelworld and stayed for 3 nights...unlike everywhere else I never got an e-mail back asking for me to rate the place....on my account it was down as cancelled obviously so I couldn't give it a bad rating

  • As I know they turned on hot water from 7am to 12pm. So by your time there must be hot water lol

  • They turn off the hot water like at 10 am or so to the entire building, because "that's when people usually take showers around here".

  • You might be right that previous commenter doesn't understand the HK situation, but this IS in fact a bad hostel compared to others in Mirador. I have stayed there and found the owners tricky and a bit unpleasant and the conditions way too cramped and nasty.

  • I sooooo disagree with the title of this video. Clearly you don't quite understand the situation of Hong Kong Hostel. Hostels are built from properties located in old building, which is not appealing I agree. But it provides a very good alternative to budget backpackers as everyone knows hong kong hotels are super expensive. I would recommend you to do more research on Hong Kong accommodation and have a better expectation.
