@ocasionalcheater5 I just acquired a DECCA two CD recording of this opera today. Fantastic! I've wanted to listen to something composed by Gluck and this opera fell into my possession, a used copy. A treasure for sure.

Excuses. The second line should read "It changes even the worst day into an almost PERFECT day!

Gorgeous. I hope to play this from an organ transcription for All Souls Day in November.
Oh for... JUST LISTEN TO THE DAMN SONG. It is MUSIC. You do not fight on sacred ground, to those of you who are religous, and to me, music as a whole and everything contained within... that is sacred ground. This is sacred ground. Be silent, and listen.

Hi throwindembows - The solo instrument at 5.50 is indeed a flute - the same flute that's been playing a featured part from 2.40. This is a very well-known solo to flute players. As for the phrase you're talking about, it's a very similar phrase as found in many baroque and rococco pieces (eg JS Bach) - you could have heard something like it anywhere in the music of that period, or later. Can't help you identify a specific piece, I'm afraid.
