A 3D CAD test of the valve gear design for a 7 1/2" gauge live steam model of a Southern Pacific 4-10-2. I designed it a few years ago but was shelved due to various reasons. The project has recently been revived by someone with the juevos and skill to actually build one.

  • Smart animation! The 4-10-2 Alcos didn't last too long on either the Southern Pacific or the Union Pacific due to their inherent over-stiffness for both lines' curves. The UP tried out 4-12-2's before deciding that a single-expansion articulated (thus the CAC-Series 4-6+6-4's) could do the job better on the entire line.

  • Actually you need to give credit to Sir Horace Nigel Gresley for the valve gear design, it is not yours. I have a 1/8th sized Streamlined A4 of his design under construction with this Gresley 2:1 conjugated valve gear operating the centre cylinder.

  • another really nice CAD model and animation
