From the GOP national convention, Reason Editor in Chief and McCain: The Myth of a Maverick author Matt Welch dissects why John McCain's attempts at immigration reform fizzled so badly in the Senate. And why you won't hear the candidate talking about immigration at his nominating convention.
Or how bout the driver's license issue? This has gotten everyone in an uproar. But let's think about it rationally: Do you really want some unsafe illegal alien coming here at the age of 15 or 16, with no previous driving experience, and then being so ancy to drive that he gets a fake ID, buys a car (or borrows one from a friend), and gets on the road?? I don't! It just makes sense to make sure they're certified and safe on the road. The only major difference is that they're noncitizens.

Ok, more correct. The Republicans who are so fervently against the illegal aliens that they won't even give them an INCH, contradict themselves. They say they don't like the fact that lower-income illegal hispanics come here and "take jobs" from native citizens, and that somehow 'drives down wages', but they oppose giving in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens' kids, which would help them get skills and degrees, which would allow them to get high-paying jobs and BREAK the cycle! So simple

Immigration reform is one of the few issues where McCain is actually right, and his typical Republican friends, esp. guys like Tancredo, are DEAD WRONG and xenophobic and just spout lies every 2 seconds about illegal immigrants, making them out to be the devil.
