  • It's not a canoe, it's a dory. It has oars, not paddles, high ends so it doesn't dive under the waves, and has a deck with watertight compartments underneath, so it doesn't sink when water comes over the deck. The ride is much more lively than the big motor rigs that tend to smooth out the rapids. It's not the smallest boat on the Colorado though, some people do run it in kayaks,

  • Yes, that is me at the front right of the boat. What a memory. The big wave we went over was the 5th and biggest wave in the rapid, nearly 20 feet. It was Sept 1, 2007, I think, one of the biggest days of the year for river flow, so the rapid was intense. A great memory, and a thrill. Thank you Gary for posting it and keeping it alive.

  • Jeeze, looked like you were about ready to submarine coming down a couple times. Rad video.

  • You can actualy canoe down the colorado rapids??

  • I now - know what I want to be when I grow up!

  • That is sweet! I love hermit! Bet your Otterbox was dry!

  • This is the only video I've seen that actually looks like that rapid feels! Great vantage point.
