It is a sad week in the Country Music world. Another singer I have enjoyed listening to for many years has died. Mel McDaniel died Thursday night, 3/31/11, of lung cancer at his home in Hendersonville, TN.
Mel had several hits including "Louisiana Saturday Night," ''Stand Up," "Big Ole Brew" and "Let It Roll (Let It Rock)" but his biggest hit and his only No. 1 song was "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On" in 1985.
He was a member and a regular performer on the Grand Ole Opry beginning in 1986. He also wrote "The Grandest Lady of Them All" for Conway Twitty, which is used as the Opry's theme song on all its broadcasts.
I saw Mel several times when I lived in Nashville. He was always a crowd pleaser and enjoyed entertaining very much. I will always remember what a great time I had watching him sing this song.
Mel McDaniel...
