A genuine performance from the REAL Josephine Baker! That was the only job she could dancing in France because the US was so discrimnating against her and almost all African Americans!
I don't know why they always characterized her with Afro-Cubano music because she as born in the US

Both "Princess Tam Tam"(1935) and "Zou Zou"(1934) are available on DVD, published by Kino. Nowadays, you don't stand much of a chance of finding a retailer who would sell these films. (Borders once sold them; look in the foreign films section) You will have to go online, either Amazon or Ebay. Do get them! I can just watch them over and over again! I also enjoy skipping to the musical parts!

this video is great,because it shows baker as an elegant girl,not a pickaninny; she makes really elegant and powerfull moves;she strips,though the audience is portrayed as too inhibited to handle it.Look at the adjacent "interview" and you see she was bulletproof.
