USS Picking (DD-685) and USS Mullany (DD-528) are refueling at sea from the USS Oriskany in this movie taken from the Oriskany in the Tonkin Gulf in 1964. Destroyermen are called the real sailormen of the fleet, here you see why. Enjoy and God bless our military now and forever!

  • 1964 aboard the Oriskany. That was my second Westpac deployment aboard her, and the first tour of duty aboard the Big O.

  • In the late 60's I served aboard a Sumner Class Destroyer. The same size as a Fletcher Class. Carrier crewmen refered to these destroyers as surface submarines.

  • This is Wonderful!!! My father who is 96 years old at the present served on the Picking... I showed him this and he smiled from ear to ear!!! I wish there were more of the USS Picing videos...

  • my stepdad was below deck at the time this vid was made. Sheesh, I'd be really really sick!

  • Oh no a Fletcher....to think this thing survived all the way to 1997

    Surprised no one went overboard!

  • My Father spent 4 years on the Mullany in the 50's MM2 Shoemake.

  • Yep, it didn't take much for those little DD's to take on water. Thank God I was on the DDG-13 which by then had hurricane bows to help out with the waves.
