Martha has her history wrong. It was not just Jews who left in the Exodus; it was all the tribes of Israel, of which Judah was only one.

It looks like the Streit's owners did not have there heads covered in the video. Did anybody else see that?

Kudos to Martha -This should have been in Food Network, Martha gets the SCOOP!

@4521556 or how not to get face lifts.

@bigred997 - I don't think they actually say that it's removed to certify it's kosher, although I see that it could be interpreted that way. I think they say that the rabbi does two things: 1) removes a handful of dough; and 2) certifies that it's kosher. But really, my favorite part of this thing is Martha saying, "Matzah. From the Hebrew word, 'matzah.'"

Go Martha

Another correction:
This rabbi perpetuates the misconception that YEAST is forbidden. Actually, wild yeast is present in wine and even in matzah flour. It's impossible to get rid of yeast, even if we had to. The forbidden leavening is actually the swelling of the flour grains themselves, aka gluten "development".
Bread recipes often say to mix flour and water, then wait about 20 minutes before kneading; Jewish law translates this to 18. If you're impatient, you get bad bread - or matzah. :-)

shomar Shiksa...LOL

Moron comes from the word MORON. Martha wouldn't be caught dead in that Jew business so name STREITSES was born in an uptown studio. Fortunately, the location producer did a nice job!

She didn't vist the factory herself and I don't think she viewed the video before she added narration. She pronounced the Streit's name improperly every time, even though it is mentioned a number of times by the Streit's people. Maybe if she looked closely at the word she would notice that it is not "Straitses," as she kept on saying. Now I don't trust anything she says.
correction- the dough is not removed to certify that it is kosher or approved by a rabbi.
it is done as a ceremonial reminder from the time of the Holy Temple eras when Jews were obligated to remove part of their wheat crop and give to the Kohanim (Jewish Priests). Any religious woman who bakes bread in her house also removes a piece of dough before placing in the oven.
