A St. Louis TV station reports a group known as the Barack Obama Truth Squad is coming under fire because a number of state prosecutors and sheriffs have joined and may crack down on free speech. KMOV-TV says the group was set up to respond to advertisements and statements about Obama it considers misleading and possible violations of the state's ethics laws.

Missouri Republican Governor Matt Blunt says, "What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous... the only conceivable purpose... is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate." And the conservative Americans Issues Project says Obama is carrying out a campaign of what it calls "legal intimidation."

Meanwhile, KMOV-TV has been inundated with calls from angry viewers as far away as New York and Florida. The station reports many are expressing concern that people could be prosecuted for stating their political views.

A close friend of mine belongs to the ACLU.

She's very concerned that TV programs should not be censored because of sexual content.

She's also very concerned that we protect "separation of church and state." (By that she means that there should be no mention of God in government places.)

I haven't heard her complain about Obama's Truth squads.

My concern now is the leftists know all they have to do to get a democrat elected is to put a liberal African-American on the ballot! 95% of blacks (republicans AND democrats) voted for Barack Obama! Even Colin Powell voted for him even though he calls himself a Republican. If the right-wingers continue to be pushed out of Washington at this rate, the country could easily turn into a one-party government....

The problem is when some of these political ads become borderline slander. There was one slander case in my state, North Carolina, over one of the adds that Liz Dole ran about Kay Hagan and rightly so.

It is a sort of cyclical thing McCain used misleading, false, and intimidating ads and Obama sends in his team of lawyers to put pressure on people to pull them. They are both wrong here. The ads were very nasty, but if you don't like them challenge them the right way, in court.

Not really. The world laughed at the Bay of Pigs and laughted at Jimmy Carter. Effective presidents are not laughed at but respected.

That's why we were not hit by anyone after Sept. 11 because they knew GWB would have none of it.
