Does Green Coffee Bean Extract Work for Weight Loss?

A pilot research study headed by Dr. Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton, in Scranton, PA (USA) demonstrated that an extract from green (unroasted) coffee beans worked as a weight loss supplement. The study results were impressive and a larger study is being planned, according to Dr. Vinson.

Study participants lost an average of 17 ½ pounds over 22 weeks. According to Dr. Vinson, there were no negative side effects, just the positive side effect of weight loss.

Green Coffee Beans are simply coffee beans that have not been roasted. The coffee that most of us enjoy every morning is made from roasted coffee beans. The roasting of the raw coffee beans is what gives coffee the wonderful taste and aroma that so many of us love. The roasting process also, unfortunately, destroys a substance called chlorogenic acid, which exists only in raw coffee beans. It is believed that the chlorogenic acid is responsible for the weight loss, among other potential benefits, demonstrated in the research study. So drinking roasted coffee will not duplicate the weight loss success that resulted from taking green coffee bean extract supplements.

After the study results became public, celebrity TV doctor Dr. Oz featured a segment about green coffee bean extract and weight loss on his popular TV show, which attracted much attention and public interest. On the show, it was recommended to buy only "pure" green coffee bean extract supplements.
