Her only Hope (Jonas Sister Story) Chapter 1

Kevin, Joseph, Nicholas, and Franklin Jonas all sat around in their living room of their Texas mansion. No words were said but nervous glances were shared. Today is the day their parents returned home with the newest family member. No their mother Denise, was not having a baby, she is too old for that now, but she and their father Paul, decided to adopt.

The boys had no clue as to what age or even gender their new sibling would be. They could only go by their guesses. They’d guess it would be a girl, because their mother had always wanted a daughter. But as for the age no one was sure.

The guys decided to play rock band together. Nick on drums, Kevin had the guitar, and Frankie and Joe had the microphones. The phone started to ring and Kevin quickly paused the game and ran into the kitchen to grab the cordless house phone. “Hello?” he answered walking back into the living room.

“Kevin? We will be there in about 5 minutes I just wanted to call and warn you guys not to be loud or crazy when we get home.” His mother’s voice said. “Alright. May I ask why?” Kevin said as his brothers tried to hear the whole conversation. “I’ll explain later, Love you.” And with that she hung up.

“Okay…” Kevin said to himself as he pressed the ‘end’ button on the phone. “Who was that?” Joe asked his older brother as Nick put away the game and they all sat on the sofa. “Mom. She wants us not to be loud and crazy when they get home.” Kevin sighed. “Why? You don’t think this new kid will be some emo mute do you?” Joe asked. “Joseph!” Kevin scolded. “Well…”

All four boys sat quietly and watched ESPN wile they waited. When they heard a car pull up Kevin stood up. “You guys wait here; I’m going to help bring in his or her bags.” Kevin walked out the door wile his brothers rushed to the front window to catch a glimpse of their new sibling. Unfortunately, there was paparazzi blocking there view.

They could only make out Big Rob, their body guard. About a minute later, Kevin walked in with a single blue bag, followed by their father then Big Rob. Last but not least was their mother carrying a young girl who looked to be about 5, maybe younger? She had straight brunette hair, resting in two braids on her head; she had the biggest brown eyes, bigger then the ones on the Jonas brothers’.

She had her left thumb in her mouth and her right hand wrapped tightly around a teddy bear. She looked at all the people and snuggled her face into Denise’s shoulder. “This is your new sister, Emma Sophia Jonas.” Denise said to her sons smiling. The brothers just stood there awkwardly. “Emma, why don’t you say hi to your new big brothers Nick, Joe, Kevin, and Frankie?” Denise asked in a soft voice as she set her down.

Emma looked up at the brothers. Kevin crouched down to her level and said “Hey Emma I’m Kevin.” She flinched back and hid behind Denise’s legs. “Paul why don’t you go show Emma her new room, I need to talk to the boys.” She said as Paul picked Emma up along with the single blue bag, and headed up the stairwell.

“Boys, come sit.” Denise said ushering them to the living room. They all sat around and Denise sighed. “Is she a mute?” Joe asked. Kevin rolled his eyes. “She’s just been through a lot. She lived with a horrible family before, they’re not sure but they have reason to believe they may have been abusive. She doesn’t open up to people easily.”

“You mean her family hit her?” 8 year old Frankie said. “That’s crazy.” He sighed. “How old did you say she was?” Nick asked this his first time speaking in a wile. He thought he might be able to relate to her as far as not talking or opening up to people at first.

“She’s 5.” Denise said. “Wow…” Joe said running his hands through his hair. I was thinking tomorrow we could go out as a family and buy her some clothes. She only had that one bag, and I can’t wait to buy clothes for a little girl!” Denise smiled. The boys all smiled and stood up with their mom. “I figured I’d go help her get a quick bath before dinner.” Denise said walking up stairs.

She stood outside her old office, Emma’s new room and looked in. Emma was sitting on her new bed holding her teddy bear with her thumb in her mouth, watching Paul put her clothes away. Denise walked in and Emma instantly smiled. “Emma, I’m gonna give you a bath before I start dinner… okay?” Emma simply nodded her head as she followed Denise into one of the many bathrooms.

Downstairs the boys were all still thinking about this whole thing. Would Emma ever open up? Was she scared of them?

As Denise bathed Emma she noticed a scar and multiple bruises. “Oh my!” Denise exclaimed. “What are all of these from?” she asked Emma, expecting a shrug. But for the first time she heard Emma speak. “Daddy.” She replied playing with the rubber duck.
