Construction of the new Fort Worth Museum of Science and History began November 2007, with the demolition of its existing 50-year-old building. The new campus will open in fall 2009 and will feature innovative architecture by internationally renowned architects, Legorreta + Legorreta, including an iconic, 77-foot-tall "Urban Lantern" at its entrance. It will bring science and history even more vividly to life by including:
• A comprehensive emphasis on our unique Western heritage
• Hands-on, interactive features to make learning fun
• Enhanced space for Museum School®, ExploraZone®, and KIDSPACE®
• A new state-of-the-art Noble Planetarium
• Improved exhibit space for Museum artifacts and traveling exhibitions
The museum's Omni IMAX Theater, visible on the far right, reopened in August 2008 after upgrades and renovation. The camera capturing these time lapse images is positioned atop one of the barns at the Will Rogers Memorial Complex. Construction progress is also being tracked via a live webcam at www.fortworthmuseum.org
