I purchased a PAX clothing rack on 15 Sep 2009. When I opened the box at home I discovered that one of the supporting screw (item no. 100751) was missing. I called the delivery person and asked for assistance; however, he claimed that I still able to assemble the clothing rack without the missing screw.
The installation process was smooth until step 13; the worst thing was when we moved over the frame a little bit to install the backboard, its shape becomes not rectangular, the top-board was dropping first and then the two sideboards. Actually, the frame of the clothing rack was disassembling automatically. I inspected the broken boards and discovered all the fixing screws (item no. 112996 and 113434) were still inside the top and bottom boards but all the wood around the holes has broken off, the wooden dowels (item no. 101375) were damaged as well. Definitely, its designed and quality problems.
When I complained to the customer service hotline, all I am getting is, the customer representative (Miss Yan Lui) asked me a million questions that felt were insulting. In the conversation, I repeated the assembling process point by point and a brief description of the damage. Finally, she decided its my responsibility because of incorrect installation. Of course, she refused my request for a replacement since she swapped their responsibility to me successfully. Indeed, the fixing screws and mounting points cannot well supporting the weight of the frame, it turns out that the frame becomes irregular and fall apart piece by piece. I dont believe Ikeas clothing rack cannot be moved before completion of assembling.
I was extremely disappointed at Ikea poor furniture and customer service. This is not how a professional establishment runs business. Please be reminded customer service will risk their company reputation. For $780 in replacement, Ikea lost at least another $5,000 that I would have spent. In addition, I will not patronize Ikea again, and I intend on publicizing my experience in order to discourage others from shopping at Ikea and receiving the same poor treatment.
