The Daily Show is funny where this is not because humour is:
Anarchic: it doesn't respect authority.
Educated: it needs irony and to appeal to smart people.
Irreverent: it uses foul language and sexual references.
Atheistic: it mocks God and all religious authority.
this fails because conservatives can't embrace these leftist ideals. they have to bow to authority and accept dogma.

Well fucking said. I would consider the "anarchic" and "atheistic" categories to be the same in this case though, just like Bakunin did, since it's about mocking authority in general.
