In northern Arizona the Rocky Mountain plateau drops precipitately along the Mogollon Rim down to the desert floor below. Adjacent to this falloff and within the Coconino National Forest (running at about 8,000 feet of elevation), is the historic Cabin Loop trail. This trail was used in the early days of the forest service to connect lookout cabins along the route. Using only the old tree baizes carved into the bark of the trees and intermittent rock cairns along the way, it can be challenging to stay on the trail as it winds steeply up and down the canyons. (We got lost more than once.) But it is remote and pretty, and over our three days on the trail we saw only one other pair of humans.

  • @wingman115 Thanks for the nice comment. We had a great trip, though you can tell from the narrative that we had a hard time finding the trail at first.

  • Love the Arizona mountains... I might retire there. Nice work!

  • @cyclist01222 Would be a great place to retire. I never new such country existed in Arizona before this trip. Really enjoyed it.
