Swedish tenor Jussi Björling (1911-60) was one of the best singers of all time, and Im not saying that just because Im from Sweden, Im a great fan of Jussi Björling just like many others all over the world. A young record collecting friend (and Jussi Björling enthusiast) asked me to upload one of my Jussi Björling records in this Youtube channel, so I thought, why not? Since most of Jussi Björlings recordings are great, it was a difficult decision to choose which Jussi Björling disc to play. Anyway, I chose a recording made in Stockholm, October 8, 1936. The song is Ay, ay, ay of which I dont know that much other than such diverse musicians and artists as Chet Atkins, Engelbert Humperdinck, Nana Mouskouri and Luciano Pavarotti also used to perform it. Anyway, according to the label it was written by Chilean composer Osman Pérez Freire (1880-1930). Still it doesnt really matter what Björlings singing, you can never go wrong with that voice.

  • Thanks for posting this really rare recording. You might want to include words like "rare" or the title "Ay ay ay" in your tags, so more people, esp. BJ enthusiasts will be able to find and enjoy this beautiful piece (just a friendly suggestion coming from someone with very few uploads!).

It would be much appreciated if you started uploading more of his works, like "Elle ne croyait pas", or possibly "Pourqoui me réveiller"?

Thanks again. This video made my day.

    TY

  • @RoyKa2010 Thanks for your advice, and I'm sure I'll upload more Björling records later on. The titles you're mentioning aren't alas in my collection so far. But I'm sure there'll be more Björling here. All the best / Björn

  • Thanks for posting this - after hearing thousands of operatic records over the years (as a critic and for pleasure) I have never heard this. Yes as usual a technically consummate performance.

  • I forgot about this performance MY BAD.

Spain meets Sweden aka JUSSI BJÖRLING, GREVILLIUS ORKESTER: AY, AY, AY

It is obvious that Jussi knew a thing or two about producing a

    "dimuendo"

Thank you posting this wonderful performance.

    Regards-John

  • Thanks for posting this recording of Jussi. I have 2 different performances of him singing this song. Actually , I have a very large collection of Jussi Bjorling spanding over 50 years, recordings on LP and 78 that were not commercially produced. Obviously I am a big Bjorling enthusiast, also so was my father and I inherited his very large collection of singing. I am also a tenor as he was too.

  • Fabulous soft singing.

  • jag har aldrig hört någon opera version av det här styket förut men jag har en instrumental version med paul whiteman och det är ochså en HMV skiva.
