We started the day on the trail, specifically the Rubicon Trail. It's a legendary off-road route near Lake Tahoe, California, used by Jeep in the development of nearly all of its vehicles. It's not so much a trail as it is a series of loosely grouped boulders, ravines and ledges which leave just enough room to squeeze a well-driven four-wheel drive through, or in our case, a four-door Wrangler Unlimited.

  • Um who really cares about 0-60 time in a Wrangler? I'm just saying kinda stupid to bring that up for any Jeep, unless it's the SRT8 Grand Cherokee.

  • Wow, 2 seconds slower, give me a break!

  • The 2012 has almost 300 HP in the 3.6 VVT. And better fuel economy by 15%. Problems solved. Thanks JEEP!

  • Needs more power!! The Wrangler Unlimited is too big and heavy for 202hp.

  • The roughness is why I love wranglers. They're not for everyone. I went from a YJ to a TJ, and even the TJ was way too "car like" to me...

And if you're buying a wrangler, you're NOT buying it for speed.. so don't even waste your time reporting 0-60 times!

  • @kens97sto171 Yea we do really like our 2008 Jeep Unlimited X. The engine is a little weak. I just think that it really doesn't need much "horsepower" as much as torque. I think the 202 HP is fine. Just up the torque and I think it would do better. Maybe a diesel? Just not an SRT-8 Wrangler, that would be dangerous. lol

  • @NattDogg01

I agree... and they are probably correct. Most people never take the thing off road anyway. But they do need to up the HP.. 200HP is not really enough for the car. Ford and Chevy are getting over 300HP from their similar sized V6's The new Grand Cherokee is a good example of moving to better ride.. now has independent suspension all around. I always thought they rode pretty good anyway.

  • @lonegunman69 We have had some issues with our 2008 Wrangler Unlimited X. They are usually pretty expensive too. However, we only have a GM dealer in our town so they also charge us more to have it done. But we like it for the most part.

  • @kens97sto171 Yes you do have a point. But, I will say I have driven both on the street and I would rather have the 3.8 for on-road driving. The 4.0 is a very good engine and is great off road. It just feels a little jumpy for me on road. Still a fantastic engine though. I think Chrysler is trying to make the Wrangler a better ride for everyday driving instead of just a weekend off-roader.

  • @NattDogg01

Yes but the 4.0 made 80% of maximum torque at IDLE. I really don't like the new V6.. it sounds like crap and you have to rev it to get shit out of it peak torque is at 3,000 RPM. with the old I6 it was much lower. Having to rev it out on the trail while attempting delicate manuevours is a pain with the 5 speed manual I guess the auto would be ok. I do like the new styling though, and the Rubicon comes with some serious equipment.

  • @FSM2786 agreed. Jeeps aren't geared for speed; they are made for slow power!

  • I'm trying to find a solid video of a 2-door Jeep with removable tops and a manual transmission. Can anyone respond with a link? Thank you.
