Tomm Aldridge, Director of Energy Systems Research, explains how the future will be bright for people around the world when reliable, clean energy is available everywhere, even in developing countries. Technology can help reduce our reliance on petrochemicals, increase our use of renewables and make the distribution of electricity more efficient.
Cost versus output over a length of time, has been holding it back. Much cheaper and more advanced technology is needed to change that if it is possible to have it save money to switch over, rather than cost more to be more environmentally friendly.
If hand-crank generators were cheap enough that everyone can afford at least 1, that would help a lot too, especially if you could plug it in and sell power back to the power company, which they can buy back for less than it cost them to make.
