Accdg to Legend, Big Bill was chosen to replace Robert Johnson at the Spirituals to Swing Concert in Carnegie Hall once it was discovered that Johnson was dead. That event really opened up the musical venues for Big Bill. The original program is under glass in the Carnegie Hall showrooms with Big Bill's credit prominently displayed.
