A very young Whitley and Skaggs sing a song from their album 2nd generation Bluegrass. It was written by Skaggs' mother.
Please ask if you want any more songs from this album posting. I haven'got any more by Whitley but have a few more Skaggs.

  • I'm sorry to tell you that Ricky's mom did not write this song, it's old, old bluegrass. Love it anyway, my dad had this on 8 track. But I've heard this song all my life, by many different artists, so it goes back way farther than Ricky's mom.

  • @Laurelstarlw Just reiterating what it states on the record liner notes.... however it would not be the first time ever if they were wrong, and i dare say it will happen again!

  • Thanks for putting this up!

    Great!

  • Welcome CDJS!

  • Thanks, lettermen1

I have been a Bluegrass lover for decades, I live in Sierra Madre, Calif. where Time Warner just cut the Bluegrass Music Channel. Damn....we complained, but they haven't put it back yet.

Sure appreciate you folks posting this great music.

  • Yeah!! Time Warner are the playground bully and don't care who they upset!!

I had 3 of my videos disabled by them which would have been understandable if they had been recent releases, but they were close to 50 years old!!

  • I bought this album some 20 years ago, & then started a search for their 1st album, "Tribute to the Stanley Brothers", which hadn't (& still hasn't) been re-released, on the Jalyn label out of Dayton, Ohio. An on & off search was started, & finally found a copy on Ebay in 2001. I probably paid way too much, but don't regret it, since I've loved the Whitley/Skaggs stuff since 1st hearing them on the radio in the early 80's. Album was recorded to CD, & put away.

  • @Laurelstarlw , You dont Know nothing!!!!

  • @Laurelstarlw The song was indeed written by Dorthy May Skaggs between 1943 and 1947(she didnt remember when she actualloy wrote it). She has had several other songs recorded by famous bluegrassers but this one was the most well know. The nightt aht Ricky played at the G.O.O. the Skaggs family as a whole was there and they performed that song then. It predates 8 track players, so it is easy to see how you didnt realize it was that old of a song. In fact, it predates the 33 1/3 by a bit.

  • i agree that you can't find goog hard core country music & or Good bluegrass any more. This stuff they call country now, you can't tell one artist from another(male or female).Igrew up in the 70's w/rock & even then ,I was hard core country w/a good tear jerking tune. Thanks for traditonal country &bluegrass!!!
