Since we made tis video, we have welcomed a new baby into our lives. Soph was born in Nov 08, and reminds us daily of the miracle of organ donation. Without Peters donor, Soph wouldnt be here.

Peter recieved a donor heart in august 2007. will update more as things progress.

I had the idea for this one after someone asked us how our lives were and how do we cope. So i wanted to 'show' people as it were, what life on the list can be like. Peter is one of the longest LVAD patients in the Uk currently at this time, or so the thoratec website says (peter houghtons has been on a different VAD for over 6years). So life is a bit unique to some transplant patients. The LVAD has given him almost 2 years extra of life, as at the point it was fitted during open heart surgery he was given 2 weeks to live, and also the surgeons were not very optimistic that he would survive the op. He has had countless infections (his best being three different bugs growing at once on his drivelines) and suffered 2 strokes and a blood clot in his leg.

  • Hello all. My name is Timothy. I am from the United States. Due to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, I needed an LVAD. At the time, it was destination therapy, it was still in trial. I received the heartmate 2. My quality of life improved, but it wasnt enough, I wanted a functional heart. I received my gift of life on march 6, 2009. Im now back to work as an emt, saving lives, how ironic, i know. But it can happen, and will happen. Just have faith.

Thank you for your comment. Peter received a donor heart in August 2007. He is doing well, and is back at work.

  • Hello.

As some may know from following the blog, peter suffered a set back last week after a stroke. he is trying to recover fully from this, so he can go on the urgent list as soon as possible.

  • Peter is STILL waiting for a transplant.

  • Today (march 14th) Peter has been on the transplant list for two years.

  • What a story.. I was only on dialysis for 12 weeks . I was in the ER 10 times and ICU 2 times. It caused my Blood Presure to go up when on it. Last July my BP reached 235 over 135 while I was on 4 different blood presure meds (3 times a day). Thank God the transplant happened that same month. Check out my website another2ndchance org and check out the story.

  • Great video you really showed how difficult it is on the transplant list. I had a kidney transplant 3 1/2 months ago, I spent 4 1/2 years on dialysis. I went on it on my 19th birthday. The worst time in my life, I always have this fear of going back on it. Keep strong.

  • Keep on being strong, mate :)

  • And I am now also on the active transplant list... heart-lung

  • I now have an LVAD too...

  • Thanks for your video! I got my transplant (kidney) one month after you got your transplant (heart) in the same year! Here is to both of us! Cheers! The Gift of Life is truly a wonderful Gift isn't it! :)

  • Congrats on your heart transplant.

  • I knew Peter when I worked at harefield, I was one of the vampires that used to come and take his blood every day.

How are you now Peter?, I hear good reports from the other vampires at the hospital!.

Hope all is going good for you and your family.

    Take Care
