I remember watching this live. I was 6 years old, staying up late waiting for my dad to get home from Indianapolis.
Never knew that this was the start of something big.

Couple laps to go, Wallace fades for a second place finish, then Gordon laps a retiring Harry Gant. Then he passes by a crumpled Earnhardt car, that was still fighting for everything it could. And in the announcer booth? Richard Petty.
This was truly a passing of the baton.

i wasnt even born when he won this race and the brickyard 400 later this year, and today i am a Jeff Gordon fan and always will be. absolutely the best driver i've ever seen.
