  • Ha ha, don't get amazing music like this nowadays...its all techno rubbish which isn't really music...just noises.

  • My dad, Willie Rosenberg, predicted that Benny Goodman would be a big star when he was stationed in San Jose, California with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Goodman was his idol. He remembers seeing him in a theater when he was either a teen or early 20's and Artie Shaw was performing at another theater. I remember trying to keep up with my dad to Sing Sing Sing when I got married 40 years ago to a band that my folks hired. Gee, I miss my dad from New Jersey.

  • Yes these people can dance. However this is a film clip from a movie and they are professional dancers. There is plenty of this music out there to dance to . I suggest you go to the Glem Miller festival in Clarinda Iowa in June/July. You can listen to some great bands, see some great dancers, join in, and get lessons in swing dancing. It's a fun time.

  • wow ! dem coloured folks sho kin dance ! (heavy sarcasm)

  • One of my, and my Pop's most favorite CD's (Pop had the original release on vinyl, back in the 40's) is Benny Goodman's 1938 Carnegie Hall concert. I'm 51 now, but this kind of music can really get my foot tapping. I thank my Pop for introducing this kind of music to me from his youth. The Greatest Generation truly is/was great. God bless them!!!

  • When mem were men,women were woman,and the U.SA. was THE U.SA!!!!

  • not war time dancing... actually lindy hop is waay before swing

  • All is I can say is WOW! I wished I had been around when this dancing was going on. It looks SO fun. Current generation has NOTHING on this...............

  • @MrFunderbee

Did you happen to notice that this dancing occured in a public place?

Family entertainment acts were quite common in Vaudeville days, during the "golden age" of Hollywood and in the early days of television. (The movie companies even had tutors and classrooms at their production facilities)

Was all of this an "ideal childhood" No. But is it any worse than what we have now? Latch-key children, both parents working (if there are even two parents!) etc., etc.,

  • @wspeid

    Thanks for the information. :))
