One thing I like about developing on Android - the ability to build one app that can adjust dynamically to different devices, possible because of the XML UI.
One thing I'd like to see - support for Java Native Interface (JNI).

We are working on an upgrade to JNI, which hides the C code from the Java programmer. Have a look at "Returning Control to the Programmer: SIMD Intrinsics for Virtual Machines" for the (ACM) Queue Magazine. This may impact the JNI in Android.
