The Turanganui Schools' Maori Cultural Festival this year wanted to recognise and pay tribute to Te Tairawhiti and national kapa haka icons Uncle Bub and Aunty Nen Wehi, as they were known here in Turanga.
The desire for our festival to honour these special people is to acknowledge them as the epitome of humility, ambassadors of tikanga, dedication to whanau and the fostering of Te Reo Maori. Relentless pursuit of excellence and their undying commitment to each other best typifies the character of local, national and international kapa haka icons, Uncle Bub and Aunty Nen Wehi. Between them, they forged a formidable reputation as the "best of the best", expecting the absolute best from their charges and accepting nothing less. The epitome of EXCELLENCE!
Thank you both for the memories!
No reira,
E te Mama a Pimia — moe mai ra ki roto i te Ariki.
E te Papa Tohunga Ngapo — noho ora mai ki raro I nga manaakitanga a te Wahi Ngaro.
Waiho ma a korua waiata, haka, me a korua tamariki, mokopuna, e kawe i nga mahi ataahua I mahia e korua, hei tohu maumahara ki a korua, mo ake tonu e.
