Feauturing pianist Vladimir Horowiztz, this classic masterpiece is augmented with subscripts from Heinrich Heine, the poet who created the lyrics (1835) for its well-known operatic version. A host of paintings represented by Chagall, Homer, O'keefe, Pissarro, Sargent, and Spadecaller portray the beautiful night garden, where love is transported by the "Wings of Song." A Spadecaller Video.

  • Beautiful. Contrary to popular belief, this was not one of Mendenlssohn's "Songs Without Words"...it is a song with beautiful words...transcribed here for piano. Up there with Saint-Saens "The Swan" both pieces have been transcribed many times. Thanx 4 posting.

  • @TheDave3846 Interesting- I was drawn by nostalga- and my Mothers rendering of this Mendelssohn beautiful

melody.Even though the future looks bleak mankind is capable of such hings as this.Genius

  • The wooden rhythmic predictability (lack of a supple and persuasive tempo rubato), combined with the complete lack of variety in tonal color resulting from unimaginative pedaling and any subtlety of touch, confirm that this recording is not Horowitz.

  • I Wonder who the performer is...

  • my girlfriend's favorite. like this post if you like the piece too. :D

  • I came here because one of the great novels of late 20th century America is named after this poem. Thomas M. Disch wrote it 1979; it was nominated for a Hugo and Nebula for science fiction. It takes place in an early 21st century America that is falling into an economic and social crisis. The book echoes the themes and emotions of this poem, least of which is the protagonist's desire to escape a grotesque, nightmare version of America through the aid of song-- Bel canto, to be precise. Superb!

  • I remember the Movie "Young At Heart" where this melody was put to lyric and was titled " Till My Love Comes To Me" woderfully sung by Doris Day

  • beautiful music thank you for sharing
