Communism has claimed millions more lives than Facism ever has. If you feel than Communism is 100X better than Franco then look at the numbers below. You have been drinking too much red liberal Democrat Kool Aid.

Mao murdered 70 million

Stalin murdered 30 million

Pol Pot murdered 1.7 million (The Killing Fields in Cambodia)

Castro murdered 75, 000 (counter is still running)

Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il (N. Korea) murdered 2 million (counter is still running)

I'm not a Communist, I consider myself a liberal democrat, but you're right about one thing: Communism, for all its flaws, would've been 100 times better than the tyranny imposed by Franco and the fascists.

The Republic never tried to 'subjugate' the Church, all they did was make it clear that the church had no place in politics and should stick to spiritual matters. Separation of church and state.

Franco was a despot, not unlike Stalin, who overthrew a democratically elected government. He turned Spain into a police state, and just like his Stalinist rivals he murdered anyone who dissented from his tyranny. Fascism and Communism are two sides of the same totalitarian coin. Franco was the best friend the Communists ever had in Spain- a self-described "Nationalist Socialist."

Any of you who oppose the communist do not realize these people needed communism, and had they beaten Franco, Spain would be a better country today. True communist societies will not have governments, they won't be needed as the people shall form councils and govern themselves. Racism, oppression, and laziness shall be replaced by fairness, equality, and a healthy, strong people.

Amen,The NKVD had bloody purges in Spain toward the end of the Spanish civil war that gutted the other groups fighting against Franco. Also they left with most of Spain's gold reserves,I guess as payment for their aid(or lack thereof).

Franco cleaned up Communist garbage which was a cancer on Spain. The Republicans tried to subjugate the Church and if Communism would have won out, then Spain would have been an atheist state. He had the sensibility to keep the leftists and Communists in check during his reign. The Republicans went to bed with Stalin. What would have the result for Spain if Stalin and his cronies would have won out. A good chunk of Europe had to face 60 years of Communism and with 20 million dead.
