The son of Don Trumbull who did the effects in Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Doug was a creative talent even in the 6th grade. My first recollection of him
was one morning in Inglewood, California when he arrived early in Mrs. Essex's class, and had draped a virtually invisible antenna wire out the window,
so that he could surreptitiously listen to his crystal set in class. At recess, I introduced myself, and we became fast friends.
Visual effects should mealy accompany the storytelling not overwhelm it. The best visual effect is the one that we don’t tend to notice because it could be something we are all familiar with.
