  • Yeah, as a Brazilian I can tell you for sure: that's samba, indeed! But let me add something: there are several styles of samba, both in singing and dancing (samba de breque, samba-canção, samba de partido alto, among others). The kind of samba the girl is dancing is called "samba-enredo", which is the music played by each samba school during the Carnival parade competition. The Salgueiro samba school headquarters, where the video was shot, is one of the most important schools in Rio.

    YOU'VE GOT TO GO THERE !!! …

this country is amazing … and no problem with meeting people : Brazilians are so eager to talk with you that you'll learn the basics in 2 months. Just hang out on the corner of any street anywhere anytime and it won't be 15 minutes before someone comes and has a chat with you !!!… I

Don't miss a samba school, even the best filmmaker could not convey 1% of what it really is : rythm, sweat, joy, trance, sex… even the 80 yrs old grandpa has grace

  • @vincent7520 Oh, I get you now. I thought ur exclamation meant you didn't believe people actually had an institution for samba. You're so lucky. one of these days I hope to go myself.

  • @silkBOMB

    I know

I visited a samba school last year in a favela, and let me tell you what they show here bears very little resemblance to what I saw : nothing fancy, no individual performance, not bright costumes and glitter as they seem to be designed for tourists on this video. Just plain people, from 4 yrs old kids to grandmas and pas aged 80 or so, training with a batteria and a band from 11pm. to 4 am.

It was genuinely fantastic ! Nothing to do with this ! …

  • @vincent7520 A samba school isn't really an institution where you go to learn samba each day for 8 hours. They are groups of people, usually from the slums (favelas) who come together to form a routine to perform for the Brazilian Carnaval every year. I guess it's like a ballet class practicing for a recital, except instead of being reserved for the elite, people from even the lowest class are invited to take part.

  • omg ihr arsch
