Stringband song performed by Ngenge Sasa and his band at the Balopa Cultural Festival in december 2006.
The purpose of this enormous festival - the largest in the history of the island - was to revive old cultural traditions, get the bored youth involved in meaningful activities and thereby possibly attract international tourism and money to the island.
The video is part of a larger anthropological film project which deals with the ways Baluan people understand themselves, their culture and their possibilities in the new global reality. Apart from the extraordinary cultural performances the film focuses on several local debates, which evolved during the festival about what Baluan culture and tradition actually consists of and what it may and may not be used for.

whatever some white people did to your people in the past are not representative of modern whites and certainly not me. instead of bewaring whites you should beware of religions, including your own, and beware of using the same blanket logic that befell your oppressors and not accuse a race in general. To sing about a skin color lumped together is just as racist as the racist people that oppressed you. Human suffering and abuse from authority is universal, and women and children suffer the most.
