Entitled 'The Big One', the GCR's Winter Gala was to be my first railway visit of 2012.
The lack of footage is due to our late arrival in Loughborough after the train we were travelling on to Nuneaton, from Crewe, was involved in a fatality between Atherstone and Nuneaton: someone had committed suicide in front of train, which left all passengers very shaken and distressed. We were stranded on the train for 3 hours unable to move onto our various destinations causing mass disruption. Many thanks go to the London Midland staff members who remained calm and continually kept us informed of the information that was made available to them.
Even though our 'steam day' did not start very well and until gone 1pm, the hours we spent at the GC were, as always, lots of fun.
Footage focuses around Kinchley Lane and Woodthorpe including many of the locomotives in action including:
- 46521, the GC's newly overhauled Ivatt
- 53, visiting from the Swanage Railway
- 47406
- 70013 Oliver Cromwell
- 8476
- 30777 Sir Lamiel
- 4953 Pitchford Hall
- 1744
- 78019

@Finchaviary I agree, such a shame. My condolences go to the family and the driver of our train

The guy was 29. A sad waste of a young life.
