STC group collecting water samples from Delta Lake. The group is collecting longitudinal water chemistry data from the lake. Winds were fairly high throughout the day.

In an effort to help the public understand the opportunities offered by reopening Delta Lake for public use, as well as outline the potential economic impact on the surrounding area of re-opening Delta Lake, South Texas College science and business administration faculty and students, as well as Texas Parks and Wildlife staff have engaged in multi-year testing of the waters of the lake. Last year the team sent samples of the lake water to a research lab at Univ of Arizona to find out if dangerous ameoba still resides, which is the reason the lake was officially closed to the public in the 70s. Dr. Chuck Gerba is a an internationally renowned environmental microbiologist who has been willing to conduct the experiments in his lab for the college. Students are working to find out if Delta Lake continues to be a viable entertainment/leisure option for the Valley community in the hopes of revitalizing this wildlife and leisure area for the communities enjoyment.
