  • These techniques are developed over a period of years for teaching beginners how to play blues and rock with the quickest results. If you watch videos of Clapton and Beck you'll see they don't use their little finger to bend notes. Once someone has proved to themselves that they can actually learn to play and get serious about it then they can go on to perfect their technique as you say. To try and get kids and beginners to play like that is sometimes discouraging. No, I'm not the teacher 4 U.

  • @johnhguitar Really, it takes years to hold a pick or use your 4th finger... i find it much more effective to do both of those things as soon as possible so that it doesnt become a habit not to later on.

  • I do both in order to cover different styles. There may be someone out there that's good at this but in blues and rock all of my favorite players don't use their little finger in their style. The more modern players through the 80's and onwards broke into the flashy speedy arpeggios and sweeping with the little finger. This is just an approach to get a quicker result but once the fire is set I'll show someone what they can do with their little finger. I don't know why people don't see my point?

  • Do it all at once and get use to the sound. You're not going to say the names of the notes while you jam are you? Go for the sound. Name the sound as you go along without being concerned fully for what they're called. By the time you get your ears trained the names will fall into place. I'd rather hear you play good stuff rather than teach me the names of the notes in some classroom.

  • Hell,

All I wanted to do was play...

  • @Duchmont Good to know that you are learning guitar well... now maybe you should look up a tutorial on spelling :)

  • @jordanpartv Calm down buddy :)

  • @GuitarHockeyLife Are you serious? You're trying to say that there is a proper way to play guitar? Where do you get off thinking that? I'm guessing you've never heard of Mark Knopfler who uses only his fingers....and you really bend notes with your 4th finger? First person I've seen that does that.

  • @GuitarHockeyLife = fail

  • @johnhguitar

Hockey man speaks foolishness. Rock on sir.

  • @GuitarHockeyLife whats the difference, he is still teaching you your scales. if you want to learn picking techniques, stop complaining and look up a different lesson.
