The ship-owner Herr Reeder Roberts organizes a world trip on his luxury liner "Yoshiwara". Aboard are millionaires and famous artists, but also criminals. The manager of the ship-owner, Stefan Martini, has been murdered shortly before the departure in a mysterious way. Several persons are suspected and these are, precisely, the passengers of the "Yoshiwara".
In this film, Brigitte Helm portrays a "femme fatale", the dancer Marta Petrowna who will be involved in a crime and must use her fräulein weapons for selfish benefit. The film was inspired in a novel by Herr Paul Rosenhayn published in Cologne's "Illustrierte Zeitung" and certainly the construction of the film, the developing of the intensity and the mystery of the picture is indebted to those classic and popular mystery novels.
This movie sadly has act 6 the last part missing which is replaced with intertitles to explain who the killer was. Also on this particular version the score is from Die wunderbare Lüge der Nina Petrowna so you'll find it dosnt quite suit the movie but its watchable.
This is copied in the wrong aspect ratio...which distorts the image quite a bit. What a shame...
