The Battle of Legnica [Leignitz]

The Battle of Legnica , also known as the Battle of Liegnitz was fought between the Mongol Empire and the combined defending forces of European Christendom that took place at on the plains of Legnica Pole (Wahlstatt) near the city of Legnica (Liegnitz) in Silesia on April 9, 1241 in what is now modern-day Poland. A combined force of Poles and Germans under the command of the Polish ruler, Henry II the Pious of Silesia, supported by feudal nobility and a slew of knights from military orders sent by the Pope, attempted to halt the Mongol invasion of Europe. The battle is reconstructed here using the graphical models from Sega's Medieval Total War II and based upon various historical chronicles, which depict the events.

@heerwa2 Interestingly enough, it is thanks to the Poles that Islam had not conquered Europe after the spread of the Ottomans into the northern Balkans and the Battle of Vienna. Within one hundred years, the Polish kingdom gets partitioned by the very kingdoms it had saved!

A large part of the Mongol's army, were the wild Russian tribes. Russians until 16th century were part of the Mongol Empire. That's why they mentality is far from european.

In the first stage of battle european coalition was winning side, mongols took huge casualties. Mongols succesfully used spies to spread false commands for fighting units, which made chaos and disorganisation. @Gottmituns1610 Russians were organized into City-States and Feudal Overlordships not tribes if not then name me one of a russian "tribe" that fough for the Mongols during these times you should instead thanks Russians for actualy defeating the Golden Horde and being a shield of Europe agaisnt Oriental invasions. There were very few Teutonic Knights at this battle & the 'Great Horde' of Mongols was about 3 Tumans or 30,000 men strong. The Poles & Germans had maybe 20,000. They lost the field but there was an orderly withdrawal to the town of Legnica/Leignitz, which the Mongols failed to capture.
