- 46. Millions of squid roil the waters of the Pacific during a mating and spawning frenzy. So intent are the cephalopods on the instinctive ritual of reproduction that they do not even notice the sharks slicing through their midst, jaws wide open. And the sharks are so busy feeding on squid that they do not notice the human divers who have descended into the maelstrom with cameras and lights. Less focused perhaps than the shark, the humans do not pass up the opportunity to feed on the squid as well.

Ces céphalopodes sont tellement concentrés sur le rituel instinctif de la reproduction qu'ils ne remarquent même pas les requins parmi eux, qui les déciment, mâchoires grandes ouvertes. Et ces requins sont eux-mêmes tellement occupés à dévorer les calmars qu'ils ne voient même pas les plongeurs descendus dans ce charivari avec des éclairages et des caméras. Moins préoccupés que les requins, ceux-ci ne laissent pas passer cette occasion de se nourrir d'images de calmars.
