This is a demo of my ongoing project to build an Android Dashboard application for the FrSky telemetry system.
Project page: http://projects.onomato.biz/projects/android-dash/wiki

Apk can be gotten from the project page, file section

In this demo, I have a self-made voltage sensor hooked up to the main battery, and use the phone to "read out" the voltages to me as I fly.

Hardware:
Helicopter: Align T-REX 600 ESP
Rx: FrSky D8R (v1) http://frsky-rc.com/ShowProducts.asp?id=36
Tx: Hitec Optic 6 with FrSky DFT http://frsky-rc.com/ShowProducts.asp?id=34
6S Voltage sensor: DIY http://projects.onomato.biz/projects/frsky-sensor/wiki/6SLiPoSensor
Bluetooth Module: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200578455455
Phone: HTC Desire

  • Hi are you able to hook up to phone via the USB cable? I'm not good at electroics not sure how to make the blue module work. can you help?

  • @azzurripro Hooking up to phone with USB cable is currently not possible. I think Android 4.x Ice cream Sandwich) supports USB host, and this could allow such a feature. I cannot say for sure that this will be supported though..

  • cool! beatiful grass btw.

  • @seepoleseeui Thanks :)

They seem to have "ruined" all the nice spots to fly and run RC trucks by putting fake grass on all the soccer fields around lately. Sadly this means the fields are very often full of people kicking a ball around, so no room for flying... :P

  • @FlyerSavoie in the info, there is link to the project page. The project page includes all info on the bluetooth module and the source, and also apk files.

  • @takilara

    Nice job !

What is the blutooth transmitter ?

Is there a link to get the source soft for android ?

    regards

  • @wallaguest1 If I add GPS sensor, I would look into showing the GPS track. However, I am not able to watch the display while i am flying, so I focus on parameters that can be read to me (voltages, currents, altitude, speed etc).

GPS track would be very interesting to look at after I land though and probably have other usages as well

  • would be better see real time map located in the phone

  • Yes just be careful.

    The frsky is freq. Hopping

  • @jkrsecret I was very concerned about this. Most afraid of the return channel as that is not frequency hopping. I have not noticed any lower RSSIrx/RSSItx when using bluetooth vs serial cable.

I would much rather have preferred if my phone supported USB Host, so i could use a cable, but as long as I have not noticed anything i keep using it whenever i fly :)
