CUPE video exposes CETA dangers

CUPE has produced a video about the impact of the Canada -- European Union trade deal that is currently being negotiated. The Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) is to be signed by January 2012.

CETA could put vital public services up for sale on the global market including provincial utilities like Manitoba Hydro, postal services, and access to government purchasing at every level. It's the first time a trade agreement will include municipal activities like purchasing, infrastructure projects and the delivery of municipal services.

The video sheds light on this trade deal that threatens public services, gives extensive power to corporations, and limits local democratic control for municipal governments.

, the postal system, public transportation, food quality, airlines, drug costs, all run badly with outrageous costs to the consumer. So... what's the diff if we take it from the Euros? When you're the one bent over... does it really matter who's behind you?

Privatization of public functions is a terrible step that our government is sadly willing to take. Who in Canada will stand up against these measures? We can learn a lot from others around the world and it is clear to the informed people that the privatization of our public utilities would be disastrous for 99% of our population and hugely profitable for the other 1%. We need to organize and work against this, are there any groups in Canada willing to come together against these measures?
