Now, nearly half of the residents of Nairobi live in slums, not by choice, but rather by default. Decent housing remains beyond the reach of many ordinary Kenyans ... and the Architectural Association of Kenya warns that the absence of a master plan for Nairobi and inadequate supply of housing can only mean that more slums will develop. More importantly, politicians have stood in the way of the planned re-development of slums through some of their actions and have failed to offer the much needed leadership in addressing the problem. Abdi Osman puts the problem of relocating slums into perspective.
yeh africa for europeans seems to be a place where my friends go 1tiems in their loves to take pics of gorillas in remote mountains,.u got to loook at some of the australian policys with the aboriginal people,.u got to attract low cost tourist in their millions form europe,.but while you got beach boys or taxi drivers tormenting tourists you will not get more business,.hotels in kenya are too expensive,.

@drsugarcane so if farmers in the slums were give plots in other areas that would be a startm,u know in europe we are told for ever10 $ we give to poor in kenya the poor only recieve 1$ mit al dissiappear to corruption,.so a few different national policys of decentralising operated by community board with no politicians will be a start,,, i mean community councils,,,,,

@suirvale politicians are to blame coz they are stealing ALL the money meant for maendeleo!
Politicians cannot be driving in Mercedes, Passat, while wanainchi dont have water, toilets etc Sell those cars, reduce number of ministers, plus reduce MP & minister salary and use that money for piped water to the slums.

@suirvale
1. Politicians aka govt should encourage decentralization- not having everything in Nairobi. If the only jobs are in Nairobi, people flock there.
2, the politicians/govt should demarcate where houses can be built and where they cant. Safety is a priority.
3. Politicians should encourage people to follow the law, whether it means good news or not. You CANNOT break the law. Period. If the law says move, MOVE!
4. Govt should provide water, sewer, roads. Its their job!

@rashaenka
You dont need a dictator for people to follow rules, you need a president who will not take nonsense or allow corruption. If this idea can trickle down to the wanainchi then things would improve.

Africa will become a musuem where people come to take pictures of people living like pigs next to trash if we don't do something drastic NOW!

Masterplan 1948?

The economic growth model we have adopted has encouraged growth in Nairobi rather than building infrastructure in the rural area such as electricity and roads to attract investors to the rural area to create jobs. We have also neglected agriculture so people are moving to Nairobi to find jobs as watchmen, matatu drivers and househelps. We need to create incentives in the rural area.

at some stage mansions were bull dozed to give to way a hypothetical by pass no political support because the rich dont need money to voe for you.
when kpc asked sinai residents to vacate...Ndolo shamelessly incited his people,this was strategic for Ndolo to ensure he gets votes from the poor for "fighting for them"
