Ozeki Kotooshu, not really in the hunt for the cup anymore, is trying to get his 8th win, and hopefully will play spoiler in the final few days. He's a respectable but not impressive 6-3 after 9 days and looks to get one win closer to his kachi koshi today against maegashira #5 Yoshikaze (5-4).
good to see a strong charge at he start. I can imagine Kotooshu put on 100lbs and become immense. He is strong now but his height is a disadvantage...

Kotooshu has been horrible vs. Aminishiki and even Homasho, so no shocks in his record!

Jason. You are right about Ozeki. They should be right behind Yokozuna. But, recently Chiyotaikai, Kaio (except for this basho) Kotooshu even Harumafuji are not doing what they should be. Only Baruto threatens (somewhat) Hakuho. I don't care whether one is a Japanese or a foreigner, they should perform according to their ranking Period.....

Thanks for the uploads Jason, I have been a longtime sumo fan starting with Takanohana and Akebono back in the early 90s when espn would show sumo. I was a big Takanohana fan and was shocked to see how slim he has become. I do find it strange that nobody from the lower ranks ever wins the tournaments anymore. It seems rare for even an Ozeki to win nowadays. I really hope a Japanese wrestler moves up to Yokozuna to improve the popularity of this great sport.
