Smolov Day 4, Week 2 (5:10 PM - 7:00 PM):
Wow. I had the intention of doing push/pull today in addition to squatting, but after getting to the gym and struggling on warmup sets I realized that anything more than squatting would kill me. I haven't felt this mentally drained since May of this year, and that was when I had finals, less than 5 hours of sleep a night, a lot of stress, and (gasp) my first attempt at Smolov. Right now, I'm averaging 7-8 hours of sleep a night (and waking up on my own 4 days out of the week) and feel terrible. I can't wait for the next week of this program to be over, because it's honestly taking every bit of energy out of me. This is what John Bros describes as "dark times" - where the body is adapting to high volume, low rep, high-frequency lifting. A CNS nightmare.

Squats: 135x12 (hard, wtf), 185x8 (also hard), 225x5 (hard), 275x1 (easy), (300x3)x2, 300x1 (failed second rep ), (290x3)x8
I found two templates for Smolov. One calls for adding 20 pounds on week 2, and the other calls for adding 30 pounds. On week three, they both agree that you should add an additional 10 pounds for the first two days, and 15 pounds on the next two days. On the first set today, I had absolutely no energy and had to strain myself with everything I had to get any semblance of mental focus going. It sucked, and I wanted to cry. My right elbow had a pulsating pain, similar to thrower's elbow. It was shooting up into my right shoulder. I dedicated my hardest sets to some of the most inspirational members on this forum.

Sets were performed at: 1 - 5:27 PM, 2 - 5:32 PM, 3 (fail) - 5:46 PM, 3 - 5:58 PM, 4 - 6:06 PM, 5 - 6:15 PM, 6 - 6:24 PM, 7 - 6:34 PM, 8 - 6:44 PM, 9 - 6:53 PM, 10 - 7:00 PM. Finished just as the gym closed. Phew.

  • yikes, losing the arch in the back is bad news bears, plus the butt-winking. Hope you got more flexible to avoid that in the future.

  • @coldfeelingz Whats bad with it?

  • Bad technique man, hope it's better now.

  • Wow man, you're really pushing it. Nice.
