This hot spring is accessed from highway 12, the trail has a fair amount of elevation and can be pretty tiring in the heat of the day so an early start would be best. I'd also recommend camping at the spring so you have more time there. There are several good camp sites. The animals around there are apparently quite tame as we literally shared the spring with a deer in the evening, and the next morning there was a moose standing in it. We weren't able to, nor did we want to get too close to her though. I'd recommend a water purifier if you don't already have one, it's a long way to be packing that much water and there are places along the trail where tiny streams cross that you can fill up.

You have to cross the creek near the end of the trail so don't go in the spring or it will be dangerous. (This video is geotagged in google earth)

  • That Place looks Nice. I like how the Deer was just hangin' out with you guys...Cool

How many miles from the Trailhead to the Springs?

  • It's around 5 miles but there is a surprising amount of elevation, plan for an overnight.

  • Type "stanley hot springs, Elk City, ID" into google maps or google earth and it will show you the location. If you just put in stanley hot springs it will take you to one near Stanley which isn't correct.

  • This great! I was on that very log bridge right at the beginning of this video. I hiked up from route 12 parking lot back in July of 97. Thanks for postig this- brings back great memories of bathing with the moose and femals humans at the springs after a hot day hiking :-).

  • Sounds good, The Springs are Far enough away from the trailhead to keep the Riff-Raff Away...Hehe

    Thanks for the reply.
