Hornet "Living Ship Days" are usually held on the third Saturday of the month. On these special days, members of the Hornet add aircraft movements to their typical daily duties. For more information on Hornet Events, including "Flashlight Tours," see:

Also see "Carrier Operations 1953-54" that was shot aboard the Hornet in the mid-fifties:

  • the uss hornet you are on is the cv-12 the hornet they used for the doolittle raid was the cv-8. sorry

  • True. Hornet CV-8 was lost in battle about six months after the Doolittle Raid. CV-12 was under construction and was re-named Hornet in its predecessors honor. It was the surviving Hornet paying their respect to the Doolittle Raiders in this video.

  • diden`t CV-8 get lost in the Invasion Of Midway?

  • From what I've read, USS Hornet (CV-8) was lost during the Battle Of The Santa Cruz Islands on 27 October 1942. USS Yorktown (CV-5) was lost during the Battle Of Midway on 7 June 1942.

USS Hornet (CV-12) is a museum in Alameda, CA.

  • Superior Video!!! *****

  • Thank you Blaze3124. Your video is pretty awesome too.

I hope you've seen "Carrier Operations 1953-54" as well.

  • @paralleler CVS-12 ;) its cuz i did a report on it for a month and i really liked the ship.

  • my grand dad served on this mighty ship, fought agaisnt the japanese in ww2, served in korea, and was even on board when they rescued the crew of the apllo (not sure which one my historys a little rusty on that ) he's still alive to this day and i salute him for giving the whole world freedom from the japanese and communists

  • yeah yorktown was lost and hornet, then the bureau of ships renamed two more carriers for them. So it is confusing to navy and non navy types to talk about ships sunk and then the future ships. Personally I don't think any ship should be renamed after another one that was lost in combat. It just confuses the hell out of History when two ships of the same name, both being carriers fight in the same theater...Damn!!

  • 0:54 Torpedo 8's TBF Avenger :D

  • Ohhhhh ok thanks yeah i remeber playing it on a game somewhere i looked back at it and you were correct it was severly damaged and then sunk by escort destroyers the next day.

  • O cool a WWII aircraft carier < one of the best ships in the us goverments museum ship

program.. looks like se could go any where

in a moments notice keep up the good work
