CAMPBELL RIVER - RCMP in Campbell River are assisting the coroner with the investigation of the death of a 45 year old man who's body was discovered at 9:10am on December 16th.
Police say Patrick Francis Harry was originally from Gold River but was in Campbell River with no fixed address. Harry was found at the rear of the Zellers store by a passerby who then contacted RCMP.
The night he died, an "Extreme Weather Protocol" was in effect meaning the man could have stayed in a nearby shelter but he chose not to.
Corporal Brian Brown of the Campbell River RCMP said the circumstances surrounding where Harry was found and how he was dressed are pointing to the fact Harry was outside sleeping and died of exposure. An autopsy was performed today but the results have not yet been released.
One advocate for the homeless is fearful more people could meet the same fate. The "Faith Homeless Outreach Program" was already planning two events to raise funds for their efforts to assist those on the streets. Details can be found at http://www.faithsociety.org
