HIGH SPEED ACTION! Amtrak's Southwest Chief in Baring, MO - 6/9/10

In the evening yesterday I drove to Baring, Missouri to videotape trains along the BNSF's "transcon", the Marceline Subdivision. The final train of the day was Amtrak #3, the Southwest Chief, which shot through the road K crossing right on schedule at 7:50 PM, led b y P42's #129 and #172. The train was hauling butt, close to or at 90 MPH, which was awesome to see considering I was only a few steps away!!

Has anyone else noticed the cross with flowers at the beginning of the video? Was there an accident at that railroad crossing?

@trinityct Definitely. I don't know when it happened, but it's been at least 7 or 8 years, if not longer. I was first in Baring in 2002 and the cross has always been there. Up the line in Gorin there's another one at their crossing, too.

P42's: 110 MPH

If tracks around the country were upgraded even these existing Amtrak trains could go a lot faster than in this video!

Fun fact: from the start of the video to when #4 is in the crossing (45 seconds), she goes one full mile. That is quick!
