The lowest notes recorded by J.D. Sumner are right here minus Blessed Assurance. Hear J.D. shake the floors and rattle your head's like never before.
J.D. will forever be the true worlds lowest bass singer.

  • What song is at 2:29

  • @Charlie67131

    Rainbow Of Love

  • At 2:15,I can't tell what the song is but the high tenor voice sounds like Steve Warren during the time when he sang with the Stamps Quartet.I met Steve Warren in Pigeon Forge one year on vacation.he was in Duff's Smorgasbord playing piano and singing.I bought 3 Cds and he autographed all 3.I stood over by his piano and talked to him about Elvis and then he and I sang the song I John together. It was awesome.I also met all the gospel greats in the 60's at allnight singings when I was a kid.

I think it is Steve and the song is called You'll Never Walk Alone.

It amazes me too! No bass singer could sing that song quite like JD did.

That is what is so cool about JD!

The difference being that when he sounds like he's up against his true vocal limits, he's about an octave and a half lower than my C2, B1, or Bb1 (my voice has odd quirks and varies by the day, but I can usually hit low C).

If I didn't hear that distinct timbre, that vocal quality that suggests he's actually singing but has come almost to his limits, I would never believe a human could sing that low. Our vocal cords just aren't long enough.

But praise Jesus for freaks like J.D.!

  • It's amazing. He keeps going down, down, down. And well before he's through dropping down there, you're certain his voice is going to pull it's punch and he'll give away the fact that he's frying it all. But it never happens---because J.D. Sumner is the only bass I think I've ever heard who could legitimately hit those notes in chest voice. At times in this compilation, he sounds like he's up against even his limits---and his voice takes on the timbre mine takes when I'm hitting my lowest.

  • Oh, I'm at the burping and farting part of YouTube again...

  • @GamingDrummer89

It sounds like full voice to me because there is no breaking up of the note. Its very smooth with a very good frequency which tells me, full voice!

  • @thebassmanadam I think he means that tenor part, lol! Also, I thought that was a C1 at the beginning? Either way, is it in full voice? I can't tell past Eb1 if a note is in full voice because I can't hear the tone much.
