The U.S. military says it will turn over an award-winning Associated Press photographer to an Iraqi court, accusing him of having links to terrorist groups. The military is refusing to disclose what evidence or accusations would be presented, and an AP attorney strongly protested the decision, calling the U.S. military plans a "sham of due process." The journalist, Bilal Hussein, has already been imprisoned without charges for more than 19 months.

  • In the Viet Nam War we didn't have very good control of journalists in general leading to all these embarassing photos of us napalming toddlers

Our version of how things went in World War II was too fresh in memory and there were lines we could not yet cross.

Now we call anyone we don't like terrorist, put him in jail or kill on the spot.

  • Stupid people don't need facts.

  • batesm you are both ignorant and obviously dont know much about this case.. he was found in the house of a known terrorist right.. tel me this then: why did the US military RELEASE that so called terrorist and is still holding bilal hussein>?? if you wanna comment on anything be sure that you know al the facts man

  • Bilal Hussein was found in a house of a known terrorist. He was a journalist for the terrorists. I hope they hang him.

  • Yes, just like everyone else, I know little about this case. I never assumed the guilt of Bilal, I just wondered how they can be so sure that he is innocent. Iraq is in turmoil and I'm sure there are many cases trying to go through barely functional at best judicial system, Bilal isn't special because he's AP.

BTW I dont like Bush, I like real freedoms and I dont think Dem or Rep will come through with that.

  • So admittedly YOU know little but that's enough to assume guilt? That must be that "freedom" conservatives believe in. There is nothing to worry about if you can prove you're innocent. But you're guilty if you're accussed so why bother with a trial anyway?

Call the President: they don't hate us for our freedoms. They hate us for our AP reports.

  • If it is like they say the AP knows as little about this case as anyone else so how could they know hes innocent. The AP is always reporting sketchy info. Almost all of their articles site anonymous Iraqi sources, leading to false reports of massacres and killings that fueled sectarian violence.

  • Brilliant tactic by the US military. Now everyone is going to know his name and look up his photographs.
